What a great week! Amberly and Kristin flew in on Friday to spend a few days here in NC and what a treat it is to have the family all together! Our dear friends, the Harrills, gave us the key to their condo in Myrtle Beach for the weekend- it was wonderful to head down there for a few days of what felt like a real vacation! Although Andrew wasn't able to enjoy the water (due to his recent surgery), we all had a great time... (except for the sunburns!) We are now enjoying a few days here at home before the girls head back out on Wed. (which is going to be a sad day!) We are indeed grateful for the chance to be together-

Weekend in NY
Following Andrew's successful surgery, I left him in Jeph's care (he's a great nurse!) and finally flew up to Rochester to see my mom (she had been patiently waiting to see me since May). We had a wonderful weekend and it was a great joy to see her flourishing in her new home at the Legacy (a senior living community). Keith and Lori continue to be huge blessings, not only to mom, but to all of us as well!

The pic above was taken in front of a family-run restaurant that serves really incredible (almost amazing) food. I'm already craving their breakfast egg and ham biscuits. The restaurant is only open a few days a week, sometimes only for breakfast, other days only for lunch and one day for both. It's cash only, everything on the menu (they are all specials) is $6.00 and if you need a coffee refill, you get up and get it yourself. For added fun, you can sit up at the counter and enjoy the lively conversations between the cook and server, who happen to be husband and wife! A few tables pushed together also provides a setting for communal meals with new-found friends. If ever I ran a restaurant, this would be the model!
Not only was I able to spend the weekend with my mom (aka as GG Rose, Grandma, and of course, momsidoodle), I also got to see Micah and Nathan- Bethany and Dan's sons. They are precious- so smart, fun and full of love and joy!
These are some of the first veggies from Keith and Lori's garden.. well, it might actually be called Pa Ed's garden- good stuff!
The three days were filled with tons of great meals and although stuffed, we always found room for ice cream! (the second stomach theory was in effect)
Here's Nathan (above) aka The Peach, and (below) big brother, Micah, who could easily be called Mister JohnDeere! They really are precious and I am sure that they have added years to my mom's life and also to his other great grandparents'.
It was a great weekend. I so enjoyed seeing not only my mom, but Keith and Lori, Bethany, Dan and the boys, and Pa Ed and Betty too. It was fun to see mom in her new place and to meet all the folks (I think I may have met them all!) who now call the Legacy 'home'. My mom continues to have an amazing memory and knows everyone by name, where they are from, how many kids they have and where they live, who they like to sit with (for meals), who they don't want to sit with, etc. It's almost mind-boggling that she can do this! The only sad part of the whole weekend is that it will most likely be a year or so before I get up there again! Sometimes long distances stink!

Here's Drew before surgery (taken at 5:00 am- he had to report to the Surgery Center at 5:15 for a 7:00 am surgery)
Here's his knee, wrapped and hooked up to a cool PolarCare system. It comes with a small cooler that we keep filled with ice and water and the pump keeps the ice water circulating throughout the wrap. It's a great device and sure beats using bags of frozen peas and corn!
The pic below was taken on Thursday, just two days after surgery! He'll be getting the staples out on Friday. The physical therapist has been amazed at Andrew's recovery and mobility. Although it was predicted that he would be on crutches for at least three weeks, he's practically off of them already and really just uses them to remind himself to go easy! Thanks, Lord!
Surgery took about two hours and Andrew was home by 10:30 am. He was actually feeling pretty good (drugs are a wonderful thing!) Surgery was done to repair a torn ACL and meniscus- Andrew's not positive when the injury really occured and it was most likely through a combination of events: intramural dodgeball, racquetball, soccer or dorm nerf wars!
